The creators of Flocabulary have launched The Week in Rap. Every Friday, Flocabulary’s hip-hop artists produce a two-minute music video summarizing the major news stories of the week. The classroom-safe videos are posted online. The idea is that students who spend the majority of their time listening to music and watching videos online can now catch up on current events by checking out each week’s post, which contains lyrics to the songs. In addition, highlighted key words link to news stories from leading news outlets where viewers can get more information about that news topic. Recent posts discuss such current events as the economic downturn, politics, the Iraq War, sports, Nobel Prize winners and technology.

Wow! Smart just announced its new product, the Smart Table, last week. I had an email yesterday stating that they will have one in their booth at GaETC next week. I am anxious to see this new technology. The pricetag is a little steep – ~$8000…..

Carole King has long been a favorite of mine, but I couldn’t believe it when I found this video last night…Carole singing with Celine, Paula, and Shania! Wow, what a find. I don’t know how I had missed this!

I absolutely love the TED Talks. This video is Carmen Agra Deedy spinning a story about her Cuban mother. For some reason I am unable to embed this video. This is the URL.

Instead of a video today, I want to share an article in Educause, co-authored by Bryan Alexander and Alan Levine, CogDogBlog, and creator of 50 Ways to Tell a Story. You can find the article here. They have also created a wiki and are asking for your input! So, ladies, go to the wiki and help them out. The wiki will be open during the month of November.

This video is a speech that a young boy by the name of Dalton Sherman gives to 20,000 educators at the Dallas ISD on the opening day of school for teachers. There’s been a lot of controversy over this video in blog postings, etc.

This interview by Dean Shareski (Ideas and Thoughts blog - I have had him in my Reader for years) with a grade one teacher illustrates how even the youngest students can take advantage of social software such as blogs, wikis and podcast to share learning and exchange ideas with the world. Kathy Cassidy of Moose Jaw, SK provides insights into her classroom. I’m sure some of you have seen Kathy’s blog and wikis.
